Description
Summary:Coblong is one of the sub-districts in Bandung City has a large green open space (Indonesian: Ruang Terbuka Hijau/RTH), which is about 25.54 ha. One of the RTH objects is urban forest which is dominated by tree vegetation. Several fallen tree incidents in the city of Bandung have caused losses not only material, but also lives. Therefore, the health condition of tree stands in urban forests must be monitored intensively. This study aims to determine the feasibility level of trees, the level of mechanical damage, and the risk level of tree damage in the urban forest of Coblong District. The method used is based on the Visual Tree Assessment (VTA). The research was conducted in six locations with a total area of 15.8 ha. Assessments were carried out on 279 trees of 45 species. The tree health assessment is carried out using the Forest Health Monitoring (FHM) method, the mechanical damage assessment is carried out using the Gray-Daneke method, and the tree health risk assessment is carried out using the method developed by the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA). The results of the research on the feasibility level of the trees showed that there were 220 trees (78.85%) of proper tree category, 57 trees (20.43%) proper-conditional, and two trees (0.72%) improper. The results of the mechanical damage assessment showed that the tree damage category was 1st place (no damage) there were 276 trees (98.92%), 2nd place (slight damage) were one tree (0.36%), and 3rd place (much damage) were three trees (0.72%). A tree health risk assessment was carried out on 43 trees out of 18 tree species that has damage. The results showed that there were 37 trees with low risk of damage (86%), and three trees each (7%) of moderate and high risk. Based on these conditions, tree stands in urban forest of Coblong District has to prevent and overcome the tree damage with appropriate treatment.
