INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/50531 Indonesia is a maritime country with 3,257,483 km2 of water area. A variety of biota is spread both in the form of microbiota and macrobiota. One type of biota that is widely distributed is seagrass or known as Lamun. In Indonesia, there are 7 seagrass genera, namely: Cymodocea, Enhalus, Halodule, Halophila, Syringodiu, Thalassia, and Thalassodendron which have very diverse natural resource potential. Thalassia clan including seagrass which is widely spread on the coast of Indonesia, especially in Eastern Indonesia. Traditionally seagrasses are widely used as a treatment for fever and skin ailments, muscle aches, wounds, digestive problems, protect from sunburn. This research was conducted to review the potential development of the Thalassia seagrass distributed in Indonesia as a medicinal ingredient. The research method is in the form of a literature review. Literature was obtained from the Google scholar journal search engine using the keywords "Thalassia", "Pharmacological effect of Thalassia" and "Chemical constituent of Thalassia". The inclusion criteria used are articles in international and national publications that match keywords. Based on several studies of seagrass plants specifically in the Thalassia genus showed the presence of alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, saponins, and tannins. Based on the results of a review conducted on seagrass plants on the genus Thalassia showed the presence of chemical compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, quinones, saponins, and tannins. Chemical compounds that have been identified are still limited, so it has the potential to search for other new compounds that are very likely to have pharmacological effects. The content of chemical compounds that exist in the Thalassia genus indicates pharmacological activities such as antioxidants, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antinociceptive, neuroprotector, antibacterial, and anti- HIV preclinically, thus the marine plants of the Thalassia genus have enormous potential to be developed as raw material for medicine. text |

Indonesia is a maritime country with 3,257,483 km2 of water area. A variety of biota is spread both
in the form of microbiota and macrobiota. One type of biota that is widely distributed is seagrass
or known as Lamun. In Indonesia, there are 7 seagrass genera, namely: Cymodocea, Enhalus,
Halodule, Halophila, Syringodiu, Thalassia, and Thalassodendron which have very diverse natural
resource potential. Thalassia clan including seagrass which is widely spread on the coast of

Based on several studies of seagrass plants specifically in the Thalassia genus showed the presence

of a review conducted on seagrass plants on the genus Thalassia showed the presence of chemical
compounds such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, quinones, saponins, and tannins.
