Description
Summary:Ciplukan (Physalis angulata Linn. ) is a plant of Solanaceae family that common grown in Indonesia as a wild plant, it usually used as a traditional medicine to cure a many kind of diseases such as gastrointestinal tract and skin disorder. Several studies have shown that ciplukan has antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity. To enhance the stability, bioavailability, and its activity, ethanolic extract of ciplukan herbs is formulated into nanoemulsion. The preparation of the nanoemulsion was done by using spontaneous emulsification and ultrasonic method. Optimization process was done by varying the duration of sonication bath and probe while surfactants (Tween 80, Span 80, Cremophor RH-40), cosurfactant (polyethylene glycol 400) and water were used to optimize the formula. This study produced an optimal formula of the nanoemulsion extracts F15 with the composition of extracts (0.5%), VCO (4.5%), Tween 80 (3%), Span 80 (3%), Cremophor RH-40 (6%), PEG 400 (3%) and distilled water (80%). Nanoemulsion has a clear organoleptic, dark green color and distinctive smell with a globular size 214.2 ± 1,55 nm and PI 0,393 ± 0,03. From the literature review, nanoemulsion formulations can increase the antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity of extracts by 79-121% compared to extracts without formulations.
