Summary: | PT Berau Coal as a company engaged in the energy sector for coal commodities, contributes to global energy supply. One of the efforts of PT Berau Coal in reducing the intensity of energy consumption and emissions is by implementing the 3R waste oil concept as a blending agent for blasting activities in the mining process. This improvement project provides multiple benefits to the company especially in terms of financial aspects in cost efficiency and environmental compliance.
The implementation of this project has been carried out since 2015. During the 2015-2020 period, there was still a gap between the realization of the use of waste oil as a blending agent with an average implementation composition of 34% of the available waste oil processing plant capacity and existing permits optimum in 48%. This research calculates the gap then defined as the loss of opportunity that occurred in the 2015-2020 period and provides the optimization scenario for the utilization of waste oil in the 2021-2025 period to create the optimal impact on cost efficiency and environmental impact. This research uses quantitative methods. The research scope is viewed from the financial aspect with the capital budgeting concept approach and environmental aspects through the Proper concept approach and carbon pricing to monetization of carbon emission reduction benefits. Data obtained from various sources including company data, preview study, and data available in various publication media.
The results of data processing, for the initial improvement (2015-2020) PT Berau Coal has lost cost opportunity cost of IDR 4,855.46 Mio, has lost opportunity in reduce of total consumption energy and GHG Emission of 79,299.21 GJ and 981.19 tons CO2eq. Impact of optimization of waste oil utilization with 50-100% composition on cost efficiency is IDR 11,888.45 Mio or an increase of 176% from NPV waste oil utilization with existing performance. The contribution of reducing energy consumption intensity increased by 0.19% from the achievement of waste oil utilization with exiting performance or equivalent to 182,492.67 GJ. The contribution of reducing GHG emission intensity increased by 0.02% from the achievement of waste oil utilization with existing performance or equivalent to 2,258.02 tons of CO2eq or equivalent to NPV of IDR 398.43 Mio. Impact of optimization of waste oil utilization with 100% composition on cost efficiency is IDR 37,874.40 Mio or an increase of 244% from NPV waste oil utilization with existing performance. The contribution of reducing energy consumption intensity increased by 0.41% from the achievement of waste oil utilization with exiting performance or equivalent to 365,280.77 GJ. The contribution of reducing GHG emission intensity increased by 0.04% from the achievement of waste oil utilization with existing performance or equivalent to 4,519.69 tons of CO2eq or equivalent to NPV of IDR 579.36 Mio. In conclusion, the optimization of waste oil utilization as a substitute for fuel oil in 100% composition as a mixture of explosives provide optimum multiple impact on cost efficiency and reduce the intensity of energy consumption and emissions.
