TARGET IDENTIFICATION BASED ON RADAR CROSS SECTION ON FM PASSIVE MULTISTATIC RADAR

Passive radar system uses broadcast signal such as broadcast FM or TV as its transmitter. The use of broadcast FM or TV which is in different location with receivers will reduce the probability of radar be detected by enemy. This makes passive radar fit for military. Target identification is cru...

The use of broadcast FM or TV which is in different location with receivers will reduce the probability of radar be detected by enemy. This makes passive radar fit for military. Target identification is crucial ability for passive radar systems nowadays. Several techniques have been developed for radar sytems but radar cross section-based identification is the most appropriate for passive radar. Radar cross section (RCS) approach frees radar to use any frequency, low or high and frees any shape of signal as well, narrow or wide band. RCS of a target can be modeled to adjust radar operating frequency. In this thesis, RCS of F-35 and Dassault Rafale 8 that will be used as database for target identification algorithm is simulated. The development of algorithm consists of generation of FM signal, reflection of the signal by target, signal reflection reception by receivers, and target identity determination based on its RCS. Then, RCS of F-35 will be measured by using CAD model and will be applied in algorithm. Error of RCS will be analyzed as research result. text
