As an arboreal species, slow loris are highly dependent on tree availability and any changes within its habitat such as those caused by anthropogenic factors could have great effect on the species. One of the known habitats of the Javan slow loris are in Cipaganti, Garut, West Java. This area is mainly composed of agricultural fields and patches of secondary forest and thus slow loris habitat are largely fragmented within these small forest patches. As an agricultural area, Cipaganti is also surrounded by human settlements and human population which leads to significant anthropogenic pressure or disturbance. Evaluating the effect of this disturbance on slow loris habitat is especially important and can be conducted using parameters of area occupied by the species, or its occupancy. Data collection are conducted by Little Fireface Project between 2014 and 2015 on 11 fragmented habitat with 5 survey points each. Visits are done four times for each point. Slow loris occurrences are recorded as well as environmental condition and coordinates for the sites. Occupancy models are built while accounting for imperfect detection and involving several environmental factors to represent strength of anthropogenic disturbance such as distance to road, village, agriculture, and forest. Results indicate that slow loris occupy around 55% of the total area surveyed with a detection probability of 25%. Decreased distance to road and village are found to have negative effect on occupancy thus supporting hypothesis that anthropogenic disturbance effect slow loris habitat negatively. The result of this study is hoped to be a consideration for Javan slow loris conservation policies. text
