Description
Summary:Abstracts:

Chlorolignin is one of the organic compounds in wastewater from whitening process in pulp and paper industry. This compound is dark colour (brown) and difficult to be degradated, because its characteristics that is toxic and has a high molecular weight. The photo-fenton process is combination reagent reaction from fenton [H2O2 + Fe(II)] and ultra violet light (UV). This presence of fenton reagent and ultra violet light will produce a hydroxyl radical (0H') which oxidize the chlorolignin . This work is intended to be study characteristics of photo-fenton reaction in chlorolignin and to determine the kinetics of photodrgradation reaction in a batch reactor. The result show that chlorolignin , colour, and COD removal occurred, it was optimum at the chlorolignin concentration of 50 mg/l and ratio of H2O2/Fe(II) 500/100. The experimental result also shows that chlorolignin removal efficiency could reach up to 94.57 %, colour was 88.89 % and COD was 75.71 %. The kinetics of chlorolignin removal parameter in batch reactor followed the first order and the Kinetic rate constant (K) was 17.0876 x 10.3 (mini).
