Description
Summary:The coastal area has so many benefits through its ecosystem services. However, the coastal area is sensitive and susceptible to anthropogenic activities such as tourism. The increasing number of tourism activities in the Pari Island cluster potentially cause environmental degradation. It is likely caused by the nescience and undervalues of the ecosystem services. Therefore, economic valuation is an important thing to do in order to know the estimated value of the ecosystem. The aims of this study are : (1) to compare the coastal environment condition of Pari Island cluster over time; (2) to estimate the coastal tourism economic value in Pari Island cluster using the Contingent Valuation Method (CVM); (3) to recommend the conservation urgency and strategy in the coastal area of Pari Island cluster based on economic value and its environmental conditions. The coastal area of Pari Island cluster consists of a sandy beach ecosystem, mangrove ecosystem, seagrass bed ecosystem, and coral ecosystem. From 2011 to 2016, there is 109.48 loss of seagrass beds according to the literature study. 32.4 ha of mangrove area was recorded in 1999, 22.2 in 2006, and 16.9 in 2018. Furthermore, coral disease cases were found more in the tourism area rather than in the non-tourism area. Economic valuation using CVM was conducted by surveying the willingness to pay of 158 respondents. The sampling activity was conducted using random sampling method. The estimation of tourism economic value of ecosystem service in Pari Island cluster is Rp7,741,723,132/year. Conservation efforts need to be done in order to maintain environmental quality by applying several strategies such as tourist/visitor limitation, retribution fee, and zonation.
