Description
Summary:Indonesia is an archipelago country with abundance of natural resources. Those natural resources were utilized as resources for food, but are not utilize to its best potential. One of the commodity that have not been fully used are sea urchins which can be found in coastal area. Pahawang Island which are one of coastal area in Indonesia, administrated in Lampung also has potential in tourism and fisheries with abundance of sea urchins especially Diadema setosum. The purposes of this research are to determine the size profile, estimate age and density of sea urchin in Pahawang Island. The research were held in two different location in Pahawang, Cukuh Bedil and Gosong Pahawang. Diameter of sea urchins were measured in a plot of 50x50 m with a measuring tape under the water with the depth of 1-7 m, therefore multiple dives were needed. The diameter data will be used to estimate the age using Von Bertalanfy Growth Model, while the number of sea urchin collected will be used to calculate population density. The diameter of sea urchin found are estimated to be around 4-7 cm which means the profile are medium to large. Most of the sea urchins found estimated to be near adulthood with the size around 5 cm. The population density in Cukuh Bedil are lower than Gosong Pahawang as the result of tourism activity.
