Efforts to restore degraded forest have been implemented in Masigit Kareumbi Game Reserve region by plantig local trees through the “Wali Pohon” Adoption Program since 2008. The study aimed to assess the condition of vegetation community as a result of the “Wali Pohon” program, especially in the aspects of stand floristic composition, mortality, growth of local tree species and to describe herbaceous and shrub communities in the stands. The study was based on vegetation analysis conducted in forest stands of four different stand ages (11, 10, 8 and 7 years old). The number of plot samples observations are five plots on each stand age (size 10x10 meters). Tree parameters measured were diameter (DBH), tree height, and coverage of herb and shrub. The study results shows that the vegetation composition of the stands were dominated by Manglieta glauca, Syzigium lineatum, Schima wallichii, Actinodaphnae glomerateate and Altingia excelsa. The mortality rate was inversely proportional to the age of stand, the highest mortality was found at the youngest stand. Local species that have good growth rates are Toona sinensis, Actinodaphnae glomerate, Tarennoidea wallichii, Schima wallichii and Manglieta glauca.. The abundant presence of herbs and shrubs in the stands can potentially inhibit the growth of trees through competition and can increase stand mortality. text
