DESIGN OF COMMUNICATION SUBSYSTEM AND DATA PROCESSING SUBSYSTEM OF INDONESIAN SIGN LANGUAGE (BISINDO) WEARABLE TRANSLATOR DEVICE FOR THE DEAF AND MUTE

Designing Indonesian Sign Language Translators in the Form of Wearable Devices for the Deaf and Mute is motivated by the Deaf and Mute who have an inability to speak and hear. INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/50803 Designing Indonesian Sign Language Translators in the Form of Wearable Devices for the Deaf and Mute is motivated by the Deaf and Mute who have an inability to speak and hear. In order to communicate between individuals, the Deaf and Mute need to use sign language. The main problem of this research is that there are not many Indonesians who understand the meaning of sign language, so that the Deaf and Mute need sign language translators, namely Sign Language Interpreters (SLI). However, the sign language translation process with Sign Language Interpreters (SLI) also has several weaknesses, that is the limited number of SLIs, cannot be used at any time, and the limited duration of SLI's focus in translating sign languages. Therefore, it is deemed necessary to have a sign language translator to facilitate the Deaf and Mute in conveying messages. This document is focusing on the communication subsystem and the data processing subsystem of ANANTA - the Indonesian Sign Language translator (BISINDO) in the form of a wearable device glove that can convert the BISINDO movement into Indonesian audio. The ANANTA communication subsystem is used for data transmitting between devices using Bluetooth SPP protocol with built-in Bluetooth v4.2 hardware from the ESP32- WROOM-32 microcontroller. Data processing subsystem is used for data processing in order to generate the desired output. In general, the data processing subsystem consists of 3 main functions, namely letter classification which functions to classify letters by Look-up Table (LUT) method; word constructor which functions to construct words from classified letters; and word to speech which functions to convert word text into audio using EMIC 2 hardware module text
