Improper irrigation scheduling can lead to under-watering or over-watering, which can interfere with plant growth. This problem occurred at the ITB Jatinangor Campus screen house, where research was carried out on the growth of tomato plants. The condition of the screen house is that there is no power source in the grid, has a changing microclimate, and is in a remote location. Apart from that, irrigation is usually done manually, and the determination of the amount of water is done based on the data on the needs of the average water plant which may not necessarily match the weather conditions on the actual screen house. For this reason, a solution is proposed in the form of an irrigation scheduling system with evapotranspiration-based irrigation scheduling. The proposed system consists of sensor nodes, actuator nodes, and gateways which will be placed on the screen house, as well as software consisting of a cloud server system and a mobile dashboard app. The system will measure the weather conditions to calculate the estimated evapotranspiration, then the results of these calculations are used to start watering the amount according to the calculations carried out. In addition, photos of plants are taken on the screen house from time to time to help users detect plants that are still wilted even though they have been watered. Weather data, irrigation, and plant photos can be monitored by users from time to time via an application on a smartphone. The sensor and actuator nodes are placed on the screen house and communicate wirelessly. For that, a gateway that can connect the two nodes to a cloud server for data processing and storage is needed, as well as a mobile dashboard app to access the data for monitoring. The gateway is made using the LoRa communication module for communication between nodes, as well as a 4G modem for internet connectivity to the cloud server. The cloud server is implemented using Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and the mobile dashboard app is built on the Android platform. text |

In plant irrigation, it takes a proper irrigation schedule. Improper irrigation
scheduling can lead to under-watering or over-watering, which can interfere with
plant growth. This problem occurred at the ITB Jatinangor Campus screen house,
where research was carried out on the growth of tomato plants. The condition of the
screen house is that there is no power source in the grid, has a changing microclimate,
and is in a remote location. Apart from that, irrigation is usually done manually, and
the determination of the amount of water is done based on the data on the needs of the
average water plant which may not necessarily match the weather conditions on the
actual screen house.
For this reason, a solution is proposed in the form of an irrigation scheduling
system with evapotranspiration-based irrigation scheduling. The proposed system
consists of sensor nodes, actuator nodes, and gateways which will be placed on the
screen house, as well as software consisting of a cloud server system and a mobile
dashboard app. The system will measure the weather conditions to calculate the
estimated evapotranspiration, then the results of these calculations are used to start
watering the amount according to the calculations carried out. In addition, photos of
plants are taken on the screen house from time to time to help users detect plants that
are still wilted even though they have been watered. Weather data, irrigation, and
plant photos can be monitored by users from time to time via an application on a
smartphone.
The sensor and actuator nodes are placed on the screen house and
communicate wirelessly. For that, a gateway that can connect the two nodes to a cloud
server for data processing and storage is needed, as well as a mobile dashboard app
to access the data for monitoring. The gateway is made using the LoRa communication
module for communication between nodes, as well as a 4G modem for internet
connectivity to the cloud server. The cloud server is implemented using Google Cloud
Platform (GCP), and the mobile dashboard app is built on the Android platform. |
