Summary:<b>Abstrakct:<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> <br /> The Utilization of Seaweed by Community Members in The <br /> Villages of Mancagahar (Subdistrict Pameungpeuk) and Pamalayan <br /> (Subdistrict Cikelet) Regency Garut <br /> <br /> Community members in the villages of Mancagahar and Pamalayan utilized seaweed for food (vegetables), paper gel and \"dodol\". The objectives of this study was to evaluated the seaweed utilization by rural society. Data was collected by survey, interview and seaweed analysis, samples were collected from 5 station. The 5 stations were 1 m from coastal (station 1), 50 m from station 1 (station 2), 100 m from station 2 (station 3), 150 m from station 3 (station 4) and 200 m from station 4 (station 5). MSY and SWOT analysis used for management strategy. In the area, 16 species of seaweed from 10 families were identified and 8 species have utilized. The highest important value was agar merah (Gracilaria sp.) in station 5 (62.63%). Diversity index is between 0,4623 - 0,6494. The highest similarity index was between station 4 and 5 (90,91%). Agar merah (Gracilaria sp.) gave the highest contribution, with about 29,21% from total seaweed harvest and the economic value of seaweed product utilization was Rp. 1.477.420,/year. The value of B/C Ratio was 1,43 and Payback Periode for seaweed processing was after 2 year and 5 months. Its indicated that seaweed invesment is feasable to be expanded. Maximum Sustainable Yield (MSY) was 14,6126 tonnes/year. Based on SWOT analysis, the result for the strength were the quite high value of species diversity and availability in nature. The opportunities were seaweed culture and seaweed industry with Bank investment and financing. The weaknesses were high wave and low level education and knowledge. The threats were unselective harvest method and unstable seaweed price. The strategy management proposed were regulation, seaweed culture and alternative of other work.
