Summary: | Central Dinamika Energi (CDE)* is multinational oil and gas company which has been operating in
Indonesia for more than 90 years. The company has been giving the significant contribution to the
economic growth by creating lots of job opportunity as well as delivering nearly 30% of total
country’s daily oil production. CDE will hand over its Production Sharing Contract (PSC) concession
area to the Government of Indonesia (GOI) in August 2021. Despite that, CDE is expected to start
drilling program to maintain the oil production and flatten the oil production declining curve.
CDE develop task force team called Drilling optionality team. The team is assigned to identify
drilling opportunity in heavy and light oil field. The team consists of member from Drilling and
Completions team and Asset Development team to design field development and plan the drilling
execution. One of the candidates for field development in heavy oil area is Area J South West. At
Area J South West, there was opportunity to develop reservoir sand S2 and S3. This area is selected
due to potential of oil reserve that has not fully developed although currently it has become second
highest contributor for heavy oil production. On the other hand, there was an issue of potential
overpressure when drilling reach the reservoir sand S1 based on the previous drilling campaign in
2015. Heavy oil production will decline if Area J SW is not drilled in the near time with estimation
of 30% reduction from current heavy oil production. Why tree analysis is used to identify all potential
root causes to the overpressure problem. Based on the root causes identified, the alternatives were
developed as the possible solution to the problem.
AHP methodology was used to select the best alternatives based on the specific criteria. The
respondents were engaged and briefed about the methodology and how to perform pairwise
comparison prior to fill out the questionnaire form for criteria and alternative. The result of
questionnaire then reviewed by the author to check for its consistency using the free software
AHPCalc developed by Business Performance Management Singapore (BPMSG). There were four
criteria and three alternatives to be selected by each respondent.
Drilling optionality team is preparing project document package to be submitted to SKK MIGAS to
get drilling campaign agreement. Once the agreement obtained, the next activities will be performed
which are meeting of work plan and budget, contracting and procurement for material, rig and
services, delivery of material and finally project execution.
