Summary: | Every year, vehicle accidents in Indonesia continue to increase in line with the increasing number of vehicles and their use. One of the causes of the accident is due to failure of the brakes as a vehicle stopping function. The brake failure itself is generally due to its use which has passed the brake capability due to one of the phenomena that occurs in the material, namely wear.
Wear is one of common problem that we have seen in mechanical component which normally contacting another component. The normal countermeasures of wear were using better material as the base, but this will increase the overall price. To solve this, electroless plating was used. From the case study, we can see that many factor and parameter affecting hardness of Ni-P among them was Bath’s temperature, pH, Heat Treatment effect and many others. Which among some of the results, porosities happen which make the hardness not optimal. This weakness can be counter measured by adding alumina particle to bath which will deposited to coating and help to reduce the porosities by positioning themselves on the porosities. This will increase the hardness as well wearability of coating.
