Summary: | Abstrak :
This thesis describes the design and implementation of a PC-based Telemedicine System for Community Health Centers (Puskesras). The system that has been developed comprises of a two PC Local Computer network and the necessary software to implement the patients\' data recording & reporting functions. It is expected that the system can be used to assist a Puskesmas in conducting the following tasks: patient data recording, data processing, and preparing various reports (LB3 and LB4 monthly reports). The implementation of the system will improve the efficiency of Community Health Center administration.

The PC-based Telemedicine System that has been developed consists of the hardware and the software parts. In general, the function of the system is to record all Community Health Center daily activities, to process and to report patients\' data, and subsequently to send these monthly reports to Bandung Health Office through the Intemet. Two different PCs connected in two-tier client-server configuration constitute the local computer network in the Puskesmas. In this client-server configuration, the database and DBMS (Database Management System) are installed in the server PC, while the application software is installed in the client/workstation PC. In developing the hardware part, MS Windows 95/98 has been used as network operating system and a network adapter (Ethernet card) in each PC is utilized as hardware interface between the two PCs. The software has been developed using Borland Delphi 5 and InterBase Server 5.5 as DBMS. A total of 10,484 Kbytes software has been specially developed in Delphi, to implement all the necessary functions.

A series of hardware tests has been conducted, i.e. a number of tests to access the neighbour computer\'s disk and file transfer tests between the two PCs. Similarly, the software has also been tested to perform data entry, as well as data retrieving, deleting, and updating. The Telemedicine System prototype has shown its ability to perform the following functions: to record and to report data of Nutrition, Maternal and Children Health, Family Planning, Immunization, and Disease Prevention activities. Moreover, it has also shown its ability to perform data recording & reporting of: Community Health Care, Pupils Health, Environmental Health, Public Health Counselling, and Clinical Laboratory activities, as well as to open and to print monthly report file. |
