Summary: | ASTM D6201 is standard method that covers a dynamometer for evaluation of intake valve deposit formation of unleaded spark-ignition engine fuels. PT Surveyor Indonesia is the pioneer of this maiden testing in Indonesia. This test used a 1994 Ford Ranger 2,3 L four-cylinder engine. However, the engine had some damaged components which did not fulfill the requirements. Therefore, several appropriate actions were taken to ensure the testing complied to the standard.
This test carried by running a Ford Ranger 1994 engine using ASTM D6201 procedure. However, plenty of problems occurred during the test. Thus, analysis of the problems was needed. Four experiment were analyzed to obtain better understanding on the problem and their main cause. Problem solving guideline was the output of this study. Some problems that happened during the test were an overheated cooling system, overheated exhaust pipe, function failure of dynamometer, unstable running engine, difficult starting engine, and an excessive oil consumption. The causes and solution of the problems was summarized in one table and act as a problem-solving guideline. Hopefully, this problem-solving guideline can be helpful for future tests, especially if this kind of problems ever happen again.
