The dense population of South Jakarta indicates the high need for disposable sanitary pads among the female population. This study was conducted with the objective to determine the estimated sanitary pads waste generation produced by female residents over the age of 15 in South Jakarta. The calculation of the number of generations was carried out by distributing online questionnaires to 400 female residents over the age of 15 years of the South Jakarta Administrative City with the criteria of still having menstrual periods. In addition, the questionnaire also aims to identify community behavior in handling disposable sanitary pads waste, from the household to where the sanitary pads being dumped final disposal. After the data is collected, data analysis is carried out to identify the number of generations, the material flow of sanitary pads waste, and the initial conditions of the community in handling sanitary pads waste based on the respondent's behavior. The results of the analysis obtained are used as a database in suggesting the recommendation for sanitary pads waste management which consists of reducing and handling sanitary pads waste. Based on the survey results, the number of disposable sanitary pads users in South Jakarta is about 97% of the total female population aged over 15 or the equivalent of 839,505 residents. The calculation result of the sanitary pads waste produced by each female resident in South Jakarta is about 358 sanitary pads/person/year. Therefore, the number of sanitary pads waste generated by female residents over 15 years of age in South Jakarta is about 300,542,765 sanitary pads/year. text |
