Summary: | The Paiton Generation Unit is a state-owned company (BUMN), a subsidiary of the State Electricity Company (PLN), which is tasked with serving the electricity needs of the Java and Bali regions. The Paiton Generation Unit (UP Paiton) has two generating units, namely units 1 and 2 with a power per unit of 400
MW. The two PLTUs supply power to the Java-Bali interconnection system. Consumption of coal used in producing electricity is 553.87 tons per hour, based on the calculation of stoichiometric estimates, the concentration of sulfur dioxide in flue gas is 8,148.93 mg/Nm3 while according to the Minister of Environment and Forestry Regulation No. 15 of 2019 concerning the Emission Quality Standard for Thermal Power Plants, the quality standard for sulfur dioxide emitted by power plants is 550 mg/Nm3. Wet type flue gas desulfurization (FGD) with seawater absorbent is used to control SO2 emissions. The system designed consists of two packed towers and water treatment that comes out of the scrubber in the form of an aeration tank. The packing material used is Raschig Rings with a diameter of 2 inches. The efficiency of the FGD which was designed was 93.25% with a seawater absorbent requirement of 9.354 m3/second.
