The fermentation of ethanol by both of process yield great quantities of ethanol.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Recently, the fermentation of ethanol in Indonesia generally use Saccharomyces cerevisine, but there are others strain used in production of ethanol, for instance Schizosaccharomyces pombe. Some of ethanol industries in other countries out of Indonesia had been used Schizosaccharomyces pombe in ethanol production.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> This research used Schizosaccharomyces pombe, due to these properties of Schizosaccharomyces pombe: (1) endurable toward high concentration of ethanol, (2) has rapid ethanol fermentation rate, and (3) yield high solid content in the stillage. The high solid content in the stillage would simplify physical treatment of fermentation waste.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Optimum productivity in ethanol fermentation by continuous process used Schizosaccharomyces pombe was obtained at initial substrate concentration of 200g/L, in the value of 7,342g/L.hour at dilution rate of 0,1/hour. 4,643 g/L.hour at dilution rate of 0,06/hour and 3,213g/L.hour at dilution rate of 0,04/hour. The highest value of ethanol obtained coefficient YP/S was at initial substrat concentration of 100g/L, in the value of 0,461 at batch process, while the value of ethanol obtained coefficient YP/S 0,477-0,511 in continuous process were higher than batch process. text
