INSTITUT TEKNOLOGI BANDUNG https://digilib.itb.ac.id/gdl/view/51426 The need for electricity nowadays has become a top priority for people throughout the world in general. In developing countries like Indonesia, the lack of availability of electricity is still common. The government has set a target for Indonesia’s electrification ratio to reach until 99%. Nusa Tenggara Timur is an island that still has the lowest and below average electrification ratio in Indonesia, however NTT has good natural resource potential. Solar thermal energy is one of the energy that can be used for electricity generation. The design of a power plant system using solar thermal energy can use the technology of parabolic trough in Concentrated Solar Power system and uses a series of organic rankine cycle with boiling points of the working fluids lower than normal. Manggarai Timur District, Nusa Tenggara Timur has high solar thermal energy potential in Indonesia. Organic rankine cycle was analyzed using Ebsilon Professional with three working fluids compared, which is R245fa, R113, and R236ea. Those three working fluids simulated using simple ORC system, ORC with recuperator, and ORC with recuperator and preheater. R245fa working fluid using ORC with recuperator and preheater provides the highest output power of 2332,861 kW and 14,87% efficiency. R245fa is also quite good based on physical, safe, and environmental data (PSE) factors. This system design analysis can be useful to assist in the design of power generation systems in Nusa Tenggara Timur. text
