Summary: | DKI Jakarta has implemented Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) since April
10, 2020, which was followed by the Transitional PSBB period on June 5, 2020.
Adjustments were made in the field of transportation, particularly public
transportation, with restrictions on the operation of public transportation and
provision of facilities for cyclists. Cycling itself can be an alternative mode of
transportation as long as physical distance is applied. However, apart from socioeconomic characteristics and movement characteristics, the availability and
quality of infrastructure can also influence a person's decision on cycling. This
study aims to formulate recommendations for infrastructure development to
support the use of bicycles as an alternative transportation in DKI Jakarta during
the Transitional PSBB. To achieve these objectives, data analysis was carried out
using questionnaires and observations which were processed using descriptive
statistical analysis to see the comparison of perceptions of the use of public
transportation and bicycles, association analysis to see the variables that
correlates significantly the interest in using cycling, and descriptive qualitative
analysis to analyze existing conditions. As final result, the respondents'
perceptions support the observation that the bicycle paths provided are still
inadequate. Amidst negative responses from respondents' on cycling as
transportation mode for working in DKI Jakarta, 61.6% of respondents were
interested in switching to bicycle. Variables that correlates significantly on this
decision are age, occupation, income and expenditure, cycling habit, distance,
“safety from the spread of COVID-19” of public transportation, time for bicycle
travel, and the “comfort” of bicycle. When viewed from the perspective of
infrastructure development, the variable that can be intervened is increasing the
comfort level of cycling. Based on the results of observations and questionnaires
on respondents' perceptions, recommendations that can be made to achieve this
are to tighten traffic control to prioritize bicycle use, improve bicycle paths, and
integrate bicycle use with mass transportation supported by the provision of
supporting components. |
