Summary: | In the 19th to 20th centuries, Semarang Old Town was the trading center of Semarang City with an area of 31 hectares, currently many heritage buildings still exist. The center of commerce in the 19th to 20th centuries was the distribution of goods by rail, but today, trade is influenced by technological advances. One of the economic drivers in Indonesia which is greatly influenced by technological advances, is startup business.
From the map from 1910-1920, the initial function of the site was formerly a railroad track. The old station is right in the eastern side of the site which has been converted into shophouses and divided into several units and owned by communities. The site is in Segment IV with commercial and traditional trade office functions, but not in the core zone (heritage area). Functions as a coworking space for business startup is suitable to be placed on this site. The hotel capsule functions are adding to accommodate the increasing accommodation occupancy at KKLS, on the top floor. The current function, the parking space, remains, but has been moved to the west area with a vertical parking system. The 1st floor functions as a retail. The northern and southern pedestrian sections are connected by a plaza as an assembly point that is made in the middle of the site for organizing community and building user events.
The building design uses the concept of infill architecture, where the approach is less functional land use, so that it has a higher value. The final design adapts to commercial functions and social functions that can support the community and revive the southern part of the historic area which currently looks like it is less cared for and less attractive to the community.
