According to BP Statistical Review of World Energy 2019, nonrenewable energy usage continue to ‘sky-rocket’ throughout the years, this shows how humans are too dependent on nonrenewable energy – coal, oil, natural gas, meanwhile the sources for these nonrenewable energy continue to depleted each day. With time human population will increase, and the usage of energy will increase along with it. If humans continue to be dependent on nonrenewable energy, problems will arise in the foreseeable future. One of the renewable energy sources that have been widely applied in the world is wind energy. To harvest wind energy, a wind turbine is needed. Basically, a wind turbine converts wind energy into electric energy through a generator. A wind turbine can be installed either on land or offshore. Several benefits of installing a wind turbine offshore are wind speeds offshore are much larger and less noise pollution. A floating offshore wind turbine will constantly be taking extreme forces from the sea. Therefore, a mooring system is required to keep the floating offshore wind turbine in place. The Final Project titled Comparison Study of Floating Offshore Wind Turbine Response Due To Pretension On Catenary Mooring Lines studies the effect made from different values of pre-tension (on the mooring lines) on the response of the wind turbine, the horizontal offset of the wind turbine, and the effective tension of the mooring lines. text |
