Description
Summary:Abstract :

Phytochemical study of aqueous extract of \"salam\" leaves [Syzygrum polyanthum (Wight) Walp., Myrtaceae] guided by its antiinflammatory effect test on X-carrageenan-induced oedema mice paw had been carried out. The freeze-dried extract was fractionated using ethanol. The inflammation inhibition of the total extract, the ethanol insoluble fraction and the ethanol soluble fraction were 20-30% (100 mg/kg body weight), 40-50% (50 mg/kg body weight) and 10-20% (50 mg/kg body weight), respectively. Fractionation of the ethanol insoluble fraction using Sephadex LH-20 column chromatography gave two fractions of 40-50% inhibition of inflammation at a dose of 10 mg/kg body weight The active fractions were presumed to contain a flavonoid and a gallocatechin tannin.
