Description
Summary:Almond oil often used as lubricant or emollient traditionally, beside that almond oil can also be used in cosmetic as an anti wrinkle because of it’s natural antioxidant activity. This study aimed to formulate microemulsion with almond oil to improve the penetration on skin. Optimization of almond oil microemulsion was carried out by using surfactant (Tween 80), co-surfactant (PEG 400), and water. The microemulsion was successfully done by using Tween 80 15% (b/b), PEG 400 15% (b/b), almond oil 5% (b/b) and water 65% (b/b) with clear appearance, 147,8 nm globule size, and 0,434 polydispersity index. Atopic dermatitis (AD) is chronic, relapsing skin disorder which occurs in children and adult as a result of complex relationship between genetic, skin barrier disruption, immune system, and environmental factor characterized by inflammation and itch. The main therapeutic purpose of AD is to reduce the signs and symptoms due to the absence of a cure for AD, therefore an effective and safe long term therapy for AD is needed. Emollient and haver (Avena sativa) has been used as treatment in dermatology disorders, therefore this literature review is done to evaluate the efficacy of haver formulated as emollient in AD. This literature review is done with PubMed and Science Direct search engine with specific keywords and resulted in 3 articles that fulfill the qualification. The result of this literature review shows that haver has a phenolic compound, avenanthramides that have anti inflammation effect so it can be used as the active agent in emollient and is capable in giving clinical improvement, improve the quality of life, and aslo has steroid sparing effect.
