Music has the ability to convey expression and aspirations that can influence its audiences. Like the cover design for a music album, which is one of the creative media for musicians to represent the message they want to convey in a music album. In this regard, the design for the homicide music album has consistent criticisms and protests for power in Indonesia. This research attempts to dissect the album cover design of Homicide’s music, starting from the structure of the sign units that are present, the message conveyed and the relationship between the album cover design and its relationship with the social political reality in Indonesia. Using Roland barthes 'semiotics theory, each of the marks structure was dissection from denotations, connotations, relationships to the level of its mythology. The method used in this research is text analysis method by collecting literature related to semiotics as well as matters concerning criticism and social tragedy in Indonesia. The study aims to find the meaning of the message and how it relates to the reality of the critical activity of power in Indonesia. So that the common thread of criticism made by Homicide on the album cover design can be described dercriptively. The results of this study are the levels of signs, messages that shape the meaning in them and the patterns of criticism that occur between album cover design and the relationship between each album cover and the reality of political and social activities in Indonesia.
