This research is focused on the production area of spring coil, which is the production area for producing semi-finished mattresses, starting from making springs of raw wire that made from steel, assembling the mattresses frame using those springs, until polishing the mattresses frame of the assembled. A symptom of problem arising in the production area of spring coil is the buildup of Work in Process (WIP) caused by the lack of structured production planning and control and unknown safety stock provision policy for each WIP. Therefore, it will be designed production planning and control methods to lower the WIP produced in the production area of spring coil and will be established a policy of providing safety stock for each such WIP. To lower the WIP produced in the production area of spring coil, a modified closedloop Material Requirements Planning (MRP) system planning and control method was designed. In addition, the policy of providing safety stock for each WIP in one week is obtained by multiplying the standard deviation of each WIP demand in the previous week with the service level desired by the management. Based on the simulation of proposed production planning and control methods using varied product demand scenarios, it was obtained that for the case of production planning in the second week of February 2020, 17 of the 21 types of WIP produced in the production area of spring coil could be lowered on average inventory per day. This is in line with the purpose of developing production planning and control methods in this study, namely to lower the WIP produced in the production area of spring coil. text |
