Summary: | The palm oil processing industry is the main industry that has a significant role
on the regional economy in West Kalimantan Province. Economic growth must be
supported by the provision of reliable infrastructures, such as electrification. In
addition to high-value processed products, currently West Kalimantan also has the
potential of palm oil as a bioenergy to provide electrification alternatives in remote
areas that have IPP, Excess Power, or Captive Power by using byproducts containing
solid and liquid waste. This is also in line with the government's target in increasing
energy mix and encouraging the application of zero waste in industrial activities.
However, there are several issues to achieve this vision. Therefore, readiness and
barriers analyses are needed to develop a palm oil-based renewable energy strategy
in West Kalimantan so that it can be accelerated and maintained.
This research was conducted by analyzing the perspectives of stakeholders
discussing the challenges in the development of palm oil-based renewable energy. This
research applies a descriptive method to discuss the issue of readiness and discussion
of predetermined variables. In addition to that the SWOT method and environmental
strategy analysis (IFAS-EFAS) to discuss the placement and development strategies
of renewable energy supported by oil palm plantations in West Kalimantan.
Based on the results of the analysis, it was found that the variable readiness
for the development of renewable energy based on palm oil in West Kalimantan in
terms of continuity of raw materials, technology, infrastructure, capacity
requirements, business models, as well as regulations and large resources provided.
This was also followed by various barriers involving various interests. The results of
other analyzes are also about developing renewable energy based on palm oil waste
in West Kalimantan in accordance with the growth quadrant which requires a strategy
with a Stable Growth Strategy where this development uses the great potential needed
to produce optimal profits. The strategic priority produced at this study consist of:
conducting policy dialogues with investors and the palm oil industry, promoting
investment and markets, increasing capacity and engaging local governments,
collaborating on project development at economies of scale, increasing BUMDes and
Cooperatives of oil palm farmers in West Kalimantan . |
