With the rise of firearms, classic medieval armor had lost its popularity due to the inability to protect against firearms. However, firearms such as guns were dangerous for either the enemy or the user. A gunshot reactive force may cause shock and stress on the user's hand. If sustained, it may develop into Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and Hypothenar Hammer Syndrome (HHS) (Jafarnia, 2013). This was a problem for professional gun users, such as athletes, coaches, and law enforcement officers. Nevertheless, it was an opportunity to design a protective glove against gunshot-shock. While modern armor suits became the main protection against firearms, they inherited the wisdom of medieval designs. Jaqueta, et al. (2016) showed that medieval design principles did fit into the design of modern protective clothing. The gauntlet, which was the glove of the European armor, provided the optimal balance of protection and the flexibility of handling the weapons. It had at least three potential models for design references, namely the shell, the segment, and the scale models. These models were adapted for the design of protective gloves against the gunshot-shock. Various testing verified the shell as the most effective design, due to its complete protection to the hand and wrist. The design was produced using the 3D printing method and complemented with flexible fabric. The result was a prototype glove that effectively reduces the shock of gunshots during shooting training. text
