Summary: | A non-profit organization is an organization whose objectives do not include the creation of profits for the personal benefit of the owner or manager. Non-profit organizations focus more on social or educational goals. One of the non-profit organizations that focuses on education is the Komunitas Tanpa Batas.
Komunitas Tanpa Batas is a non-profit organization founded in April 2017 which is engaged in education, especially in educating street children and children of marginalized groups in Bandung. The problem that has arisen and experienced by this organization is that they do not have good volunteer engagement in retaining the volunteers in their organization. This problem has resulted in a lack of volunteers who are willing to last until the end of the working period and cause this organization to lack volunteers to provide services. Based on these problems, this study aims to determine the reasons underlying volunteers to join and stay in non-profit organizations; also provide recommendation to management on how they can improve strategies to increase volunteer motivation.
In answering the research objectives, the research was conducted using case studies and data collection by interviewing several volunteers. The case study methodology and data collection were carried out on six senior volunteers who also held management positions in Komunitas Tanpa Batas as well as five new volunteers.
This study was structured using pattern matching analysis and explanation building to find internal and external problems. The results of this study indicate that volunteers survive due to intrinsic motivation factors, such as enjoyment of the activities, Inner passion of volunteer, self-development, and compassion. In addition, there are also extrinsic motivational factors such as responsibility given by the organization, interesting and fun activities, interpersonal relationships between volunteers and acknowledgment in the form of certificates. |
