Summary: | Batik is one of textile industries in Indonesia. Since UNESCO recognized batik as Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009 and also after acknowledgement as historical fabric in human civilization, batik industries in Indonesia increases rapidly, and also gives significant impact for Indonesia economic growth.
As batik production increasing, environmental impact from the production is also increasing. As known that textile industries, including batik, need and use large amount of water in production process, so it will also generate wastewater in large amount. In addition, by the dyes and other materials, batik wastewater is indicated potential in harming and polluting the environment. Wastewater from batik will give adverse impacts to the environment because some of the materials are nonbiodegradable and carcinogenic so that proper treatment is required.
Therefore, characteristic data collection is necessary to analyse the variation in batik wastewater quality. The variation comes from different dyes utilized and different technique applied in production process. From the data collection, wastewater treatment method and unit can be suggested to be implemented.
