Summary: | Groundwater demand in Pulomerak and Grogol Districts increases as the number of population in the area grows. The presence of Fly Ash Bottom Ash Landfill (abbreviated as FABA) and Temporary Trash Landfill (abbreviated as TPS that stands for Tempat Penampungan Sementara) in the area may lead to local groundwater contamination. Geological and hydrogeological conditions are highly correlated to the groundwater overall system so that both of them become important aspects needed to be studied further. Therefore, this study is aimed to determine the geological and hydrogeological settings of the study area. Geographically, the study area is located in 611100 - 615100 mE and 9339993 – 9348993 mN. It covers an area of 32,7 km².
The geomorphology of the study area is divided into six units, namely Batur Lava Flow Ridge Unit, Batur Pyroclastic Flow Ridge Unit, Batur Pyroclastic Flow Plain Unit, Salak Pyroclastic Flow Ridge Unit, Salak Pyroclastic Flow Plain Unit, and Salak Lava Dome Unit. The volcanostratigraphy of the study area is divided into seven units, namely Andesite Lava Unit 1 (Bl1), Pyroclastic Breccia Unit 1 (Ba), Tuff Unit 1 (Bs), Andesite Lava Unit 2 (Bl2), Pyroclastic Breccia Unit 2 (Sa), Tuff Unit 2 (Ss), and Andesite Lava Unit 3 (Sk). The geological structures of the study area are the primary structure formed during lava cooling, namely autobreccia in Andesite Lava Unit 3 (Sk) and sheeting joints in Andesite Lava Unit 1 (Bl1), Andesite Lava Unit 2 (Bl2), and Andesite Lava Unit 3 (Sk).
The aquifer in the study area is classified as an unconfined aquifer which is divided into three groups, namely Fractured Andesite Lava Aquifer, Pyroclastic Breccia Aquifer, and Tuff Aquifer. Groundwater samples collected, representing the whole system, possess pH values ranging between 4.85—8.07 and TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) values ranging between 55—1410 mg/L. Referring to the Indonesia Health Ministerial Decree number 492/Menkes/Per/IV/2010 that regulates the permissible range of pH and TDS (as two variables among several water parameters that were regulated by those decrees) of drinking water, 80% of the research are was classified as potable water and 20% of the research area is classified as unfit for drinking water.
