Summary: | The development of technology that has developed very rapidly in the last few
decades has made the identity of individuals experience a shift. Activities that are
usually carried out in real terms in the real world shift to activities in the virtual
world. One of them is the presence of social media which for the past decade has
growns and offers so many conveniences in interacting and relating to one another.
Identity takes on a new meaning in the development of social media platforms,
becoming a virtual identity. Social media has become part of the advancement and
new culture that has emerged in the midst of modern life.
Dominance behavioral system is a study and observation by the author about the
emergence of a hierarchy of superior identities (influencers) against weak
(subordinate) identities on Instagram social media, and how this gives influence or
power to subordinates or followers of virtual identities the dominant one.
The method used by the author in seeing and responding to this phenomenon is to
link the phenomena that occur, the behavior shown by these virtual identities and
their relation to the work carried by the author. The writer transforms these
findings into several figures to roll the story, including Goddess, Human and Slave,
where each of these figures is a representation of dominating behavior carried out
by superior virtual identities towards their subordinates.
Based on these observations, the writer tries to create an experimental cinema
installation work. Where the storyline or premise of the work is taken from
observations of existing behavior on related social media, the motivations also tend
to vary, including money, wealth, power and fame. With this work the writer hopes
that this experimental cinema work can provide and offer an experience that is not
only cinematic but also aesthetic in a way that tends to be new with storytelling that
tends to be sharper than most cinema.
