Summary: | Plastic waste is one the biggest environmental problems today. Due to the use of
conventional plastics derived from synthetic polymers which are difficult to
decomposed by living organisms. Biodegradable plastic known as bioplastic was
produced made from natural and environmentally friendly materials and now has
begun to be developed. Biodegradable plastics made from gelatine and agar are
relatively easy to produce and the raw materials are more readily available. Agar
and gelatine has a potential as a raw material of biodegradable plastic because of
the availability and characteristics. To make agar and gelatine as the main
ingredient, glycerin or plasticizers are also need to be added to the mix of bioplastic
to produce maximum structural reinforcing. There are four production steps to
make a bioplastic : Mixing, heating, casting, and installation. Alongside to turn it
as 6 different accessories craft product with variation of the modular interlocking
techniques. Furthermore, Biodegradable plastic made from agar and gelatine can
be used as a textile material that can be applied to fashion products and interiors
which are environmentally friendly and have a great opportunity to be developed
especially in Indonesia. Bioplastics is expected to reduce microplastic waste that
can be released when the synthetic fibers are being washed or has been thrown
away, they will find their way to the water system and they will end up at the ocean,
which can enter the food chain when they were consumed by the animals. |
