The tribe is located at Kelayam Nguji Village, Kapuas Hulu area, West Kalimantan. The Iban’s weaving types are divided by their techniques and difficulty levels: Sidan weave, Ikat weave, Sungkit weave, and Pileh weave. The tradition of weaving is passed down verbally without any written documentation. As of now, the practice of weaving in Dayak Iban Tribe is being abandoned as the number of their active weavers decreased. Moreover, with little innovation, it is hard to promote the existence of Dayak Iban’s weaving. Field observation and interview with Dayak Iban’s weaving researcher was done to understand the values held by the tribe, such as the variety of flora and fauna unique to the area or daily items that they use. The result of the field observation and literature study is used as an inspiration for the visual design of Dayak Iban’s new weaving motives using the stilasi technique. The visual exploration adapted Dayak Iban tribe’s visual approach to observe the visual inspiration. Not only that the Iban’s weave is potentially developed by the new motives, but later it is also being made into a woman’s formal attire. text
