Description
Summary:The accumulation of plastic waste has become a global problem, because the production rate is not matched by the recycling rate. Plastic waste can be a commodity which in its implementation can involve the role of the community in positive empowerment. From the nature and characteristics of LDPE and HDPE plastic bags, they can be processed into starting materials in shoemaking. Shoes are worn to support everyday human activities. By choosing the right materials, designs and technology, shoes made from recycled plastic bags can have resale value. A scientific approach is carried out, starting with characterization, selecting processing parameters such as temperature modes, and testing the specimen to obtain data of mechanical and surface properties from the recycled plastic. In this research, the recycling process of HDPE and LDPE were conducted, resulting slip on sneakers that were made out of HDPE strips and high heels that were made of LDPE strips that were woven together using the crochet method. From the results of this study, a simple recycling process that has been conducted has the potential to utilize HDPE and LDPE plastic bag waste basic materials in shoemaking.
