Summary: | Extreme current is a current that have magnitude over some certain threshold, extreme current can be taken into consideration for offshore building at certain location. This study intend to identify and predict extreme current phenomenon, the data used is ocean currents speed at Sunda Strait during June 9, 2015 – May 24, 2016 with one hour interval. Measurment were made to a depth of 60 m by taking seven depths for the study. This study using several methods, first is PCA for changing currents speed components, POT for obtain extreme currents distribution outright estimate parameters with generalized pareto distribution, with stationary data assumption. The threshold range obtained is 0.7 – 1.6 m/s for the major axis and 0.075 – 1 m/s for minor axis. Distribution that has been fitted then used for seeking return value for certain return period. Obtained extreme currents distributions for each depths and components, also obtained return value for return period at 10, 50, and 100 years with magnitude above 0.9 m/s. Furthermore, it was found that the effect of the residual current are more dominant than tidal current in extreme current phenomenon at Sunda Strait. |
