Description
Summary:Every stage and process of building a traditional house in Indonesia, the roles and contributions of several actors or actors are needed, so that the process of building a house can be carried out properly. In the tradition of building houses in the Bugis community, several actors have different roles and responsibilities, especially in rural and urban areas. Therefore, this study aims to explore the network relations of actors in the process of building a traditional Bugis house and see the dynamics of actor network relations that occur in rural and urban areas. Actor network relations in the process of building a Bugis house will be reviewed based on actor network theory or the perspective of Actor Network Theory (ANT). This research uses descriptive qualitative method. A descriptive approach is used to examine in depth the events and facts found in the field regarding who, how, and what during activities the actors will be involved in the process of building a house. The results show that the dynamics of actor network relations that are formed in rural and urban areas are based on several factors or certain dimensions, such as belief in religion, scarcity of labor resources, the presence of community leaders as "guardian of value", group identity factors, and the cultural legitimacy factor or the blessing of the elder. The results of the analysis of the dynamics of actor network relations in rural and urban areas in the tradition of building Bugis houses in Soppeng district show that all ideal processes practiced in rural areas cannot be fully replicated in urban areas. This is due to the existence of different zones and geographic conditions, different constraints, and the scarcity of resources in urban areas, which indirectly lead to compensation and substitution processes. The quality and competence of the compensation and substitution processes that occur in urban areas cannot be fully maintained, so that there can be distention, deviations, and even violations of the practice of building houses in accordance with the customs and traditions of the Bugis tribe. This research is expected to become a foundation for the government and members of the Bugis community in preserving the traditional culture of building Bugis houses. The government is expected to develop policies or programs to preserve the traditional culture of building Bugis houses. One of the programs that can be carried out is by connecting the broken links in actor network relations in urban areas. It is hoped that the Bugis community members will be aware of maintaining the traditional value of building houses. The role of the Bugis community or community association is very important to be empowered again, so that the values that exist in the tradition of building houses can be preserved. With the involvement of the government, community, and community members, it is hoped that the vernacular communities in South Sulawesi and the archipelago vernacular communities in Indonesia can maintain the values in the culture and tradition of building their respective homes.
