PROFILE CHARACTERIZATION OF A MISS DISTANCE FIGHTER AIRCRAFT JF-1E AVOIDANCE MANEUVER TOWARDS AIR-TO-AIR MISSILE

In the context of an air-to-air combat using missiles, the targeted aircraft can perform a defense mechanism by performing an avoidance maneuver even without countermeasure such as chaff and flare. The avoidance maneuvers analyzed in this research are split-s, pitchback turn, and double split-s....

The avoidance maneuvers analyzed in this research are split-s, pitchback turn, and double split-s. The missile is modelled as a point that moves in constant speed where the turn ability is limited to 18°/s. The model’s parameter is equivalent to missile SRAAM AIM-9 “Sidewinder” and missile MRAAM AIM-7 “Sparrow”. The parameter used to evaluate the maneuver’s effectivity is miss distance. The modelling of the pathway of aircraft JF-1E’s maneuver is done using Simulink and the modelling of the missile guidance system is uses the pure-pursuit concept which is implemented using MATLAB. The scenario of engagement is varied on parameters such as shooting angle, attacking distance, and missile turn rate ability. Then the result is processed to gain the miss distance and the distribution where the direction of the arriving missile that can destroy the aircraft (kill area) in certain conditions. Finally, the result of the miss distance when the aircraft is maneuvering is compared to when the aircraft is only flying straight to see the effectivity of every avoidance maneuver. Consecutively, maneuver split-s, pitchback turn, and double split-s can decrease the aircraft’s kill area up to 56%, 50%, and 57% text
