<b>Abstract:<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> The concept of regional development, as Firman (1997:7) has asserted, must have long-term perspective. It must be able to enhance local economy that is in harmony with local resources development. One of the concepts is the local economic development whose the cores are the rise of local entrepreneurship spirit and the development of local enterprises as can be seen in several areas. However, there are only few studies investigating this issue as a pattern in regional development.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Therefore, by employing the naturalistic approach, this study investigates the growth and development of entrepreneurship in the case of vegetable farming business which covers : 1) the characteristics of growth and development of vegetable farmers which include history, development of farmers, and farmer category based on entrepreneurial capability, 2) analysis of local entrepreneurship structure, 3) growth and development pattern of farmers\' entrepreneurship, and 4) impacts of the growth and development of farmers\' entrepreneurship on regional development. Area to be chosen for this study is Kecamatan Sukaraja. This comes from some considerations that development of vegetable farming business in this area is closely related to the role of farming businessmen as a push factor.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> It is found that the growth and development of farmers\' entrepreneurship in Kecamatan Sukaraja is only effective in employing human resources. It is not followed by activities of better farming business and more efficient land use. The growth and development of farmers\' entrepreneurship is closely related to the presence of new farming businessman (Petani Pengusaha/ PP). This results from two things : <br /> 1) self-growth by developing new farming business pattern; <br /> 2) adoption from former farming businessmen in developing farming business.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> However, the quality of most farming businessmen especially those who adopt farming business patterns from the former businessmen, are very weak n acquiring the technology, partnerships, and organization. Therefore, this study recommends two strategies: 1) organization planning followed by technology improvement as the priority, and 2) strategic alliance with entrepreneurs/ industry/ traders/ exporters to accelerate the improvement of entrepreneurial quality of the farmers.
