Hydraulic cylinder is one of the heavy equipment components which can be remanufactured by PT UTR. Currently, the main problem for PT UTR is the lack of remanufacturing capacity compared with demand, where PT UTR's remanufacturing capacity is 50 units per month and the average demand is around 65 units per month. Increasing the number of machines is one of the solution, however it will face with new problems on the facility layout. This final project aims to determine the number and type of machines required to meet the target demand and also to redesign the layout of the facility to minimuizing material handling costs and to increase remanufacturing capacity by 50%. The layout design of the hydraulic cylinder remanufacture facility is based on systemic layout planning (SLP) approach and the manufacturing cell concepts. The manufacturing cells are applied to group components and machines into part families by using the similarity coefficient (SC) algorithm. The resulting cell group alternatives will be evaluate and choosen based on the benefit cost ratio (BCR) analysis. The aim of BCR analysis os to obtain the alternative that produces the largest profit with minimum investment costs. The process of generating initial designs and alternative layout designs using WinQSB software that uses the CRAFT algorithm by exchanging 2 departments (2Opt) and exchanging 3 departments (3Opt). The proposed layout design for PT UTR hydraulic cylinder remanufacturing facility produces 4 cell groups. After making adjustments based on machine utility, the additional number of machines needed to meet the demand is 7 machines. The proposed layout design resulted in a total material transfer cost of Rp. 2,286.477 per month and a distance of 2434 m in one remanufacturing process to achieve a hydraulic cylinder remanufacturing capacity of 90 units per month. text |
