Description
Summary:Ginger is the rhizome plant with the highest harvest area, but its production continues to decline every year. Indonesia is the third largest ginger producer after India and China. West Java once exported ginger to several countries in Asia. The regency with the highest ginger production in West Java is Cianjur. Whereas the needs of ginger still can not be fulfilled. Ginger has good prospects when viewed from the market aspect. To meet demand, an efficient supply chain arrangement is required. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to identify the mechanism of ginger supply chain, analyze internal and external factors that affect the ginger supply chain, and determine the strategy of supply chain that can improve the efficiency of ginger supply chain in Cianjur Regency. The method used is a descriptive analysis of the ginger supply chain with the framework of the Asian Productivity Organization (APO) to identify the mechanism of the supply chain. Internal and external factors of the supply chain are identified by the matrix of internal factor evaluation (IFE) and external factor evaluation (EFE). The results of the IFE and EFE analysis are used as the basis for formulating strategies using SWOT analysis. Then to determine the right strategy for ginger supply chain used AHP method. The results showed that the structure of the ginger supply chain in Cianjur Regency consisted of farmers, steamers, master market traders, local market traders, and consumers. The relationship between the perpetrators of the supply chain is formed by mutual trust. Ginger produced in Cianjur Regency is still not able to meet market demand due to limited supply. The internal factor that most affects the ginger supply chain and is classified as strength is Cianjur district is the biggets ginger producer in West Java, while the weakness is the cultivation of ginger that is still relatively long. The external factors that most affect the ginger supply chain and are classified as opportunity are higher demand for ginger than supply, whereas the threat is high transportation costs. The strategy chosen to improve the efficiency of ginger supply chain in Cianjur Regency is the need to increase productivity and quality of ginger products.
