Heavy metals, pathogenic microorganism, and another hazardous material can be found in leachate depending on quality of refuse input.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> For that reason, it is necessary to carry out public health and leachate toxicology testing, a case study : Jelekong, Babakan and Leuwi Gajah landfill. Landfill leachate bioassay using Lumbricus rubellus earthworm for 24, 48, 72, and 96 hour exposure resulting the LC50 values for each landfill respectively, Jelekong : 38,96%; 28,11%; 11,50%; 4,79%, Babakan : 39,27%; 34,14%; 23,60%; 18,26%, and Leuwi Gajah : 34,28%; 16,66%; 6,14%, 4,79%. Leuwi Gajah landfill leachate has the highest toxicity. Base on leachate characteristic examination, 3 to 13 parameters are above the permission standard.<p align=\"justify\"> <br /> Surface water quality decreases after passing through the landfill, this is pollution by landfill leachate. Existing conditions of landfills management such as the widely of landfill and refuse services, volume and high of waste generation, period of operation, leachate treatment plant instrument, and the choice of technique are factors affecting leachate characteristic. People living surround the landfill are pleased already gone, because the negatif perseptions about landfill decreasing ground water, surface water and air quality, and the increasing disease prevalence. <br /> <br /> <br /> text |
