The isolat showed the same characteristic as reference usnic acid based on its crystal colour, melting point, Rf value by thin layer chromatography, infra red and ultra violet spectra The strongest activity of the isolate was against Staphylococcus epidermidis with the minimum inhibition concentration of 1 µg/ml. The antiinfection study of 1% of usnic acid ointment was performed on rabbit back skin infected with Staphylococcus epidermidis, Corynebacterium acne, Streptococcus ,pyogenes and Pseudomonas aeroginosa. Result showed that the ointment healed the wound caused by Staphylococcus epidermidis after 3 days, Corynebacterium acne after 4 days, Streptococcus pyogenes after 5 days and Pseudomonas aeruginosa after 6 days. The untreated back skin infected by S. epidermidis, C. acne, S. pyogenes and Ps. aeruginosa were healed after 6, 7, 8 and 20 days, respectively. text
