The Hydrodinamic force acting on an offshore structure may play a very important part in designing the srukture. Therefore various methods have been explored by many research to formulate the force. The calculation of wave force can be done by using Morison's equations or diffraction theory.

For a simple structure, sich as small vertical cylinder, it may be possible to derive a closed form solution of he load. The hydrodinamic force on a such structures is commonly estimated using Morison equation. If the characteristic horizontal dimension of structure is large enough compared with incident wave length, so the incident wave potensial altered by the structure presence, diffraction theori is used. However for a large cylinder having more complex geometry such as the hull of afloating platform it would be impossible to obtain aclosed form solution of the load. This has to be computed numerically.

The numerical solution may be obtained by using the Green function to form a boundary integral equation at the body surface. This equation is then solved by discretizing the surface into several panels elemen. The result is validated on a simple body. e. g vertical cylinder by comparing them with the exact solution that can be found analytically. The method is then applied to analyze the hydrodinamic force a submerged. |
