Summary:<b></i>Abstract : </b><i><p align=\"justify\"> <br /> The management of mining activities within the Merapi Volcano area in Magelang Regency, is historically based on the regional regulation of the Provincial Government of central Java Number 6 year 1994. With the onset of regional autonomy, the policy to manage mining activities is regulated by the regional regulation of the Government of Magelang Regency, Number 23, year 2001 as a result of decentralitation in the mining sector. <br /> <br /> To date mining activities development within the Merapi Vulcan area, Magelang Regency is still below expetation. Such activities have caused significant environmental degradation. a fact which indicates that the environmentally-sound mining policy implemented in that areas has been unsuccessful. <br /> <br /> Using qualitative method the research is aimed at identifying some factors that have led to the failure of the implomented environmentally-sound mining policy. The failure is caused by the low appreciation of environmentalissus among the stake holders of mining activating poor low enforcement an those who have violated the low. <br /> <br /> To address the above issue, the following efforts have been made produce an environmentally-sound mining policy : <br /> 1. Planning of spatial management <br /> 2. To seconsolide the issuance of Regional mining of licence <br /> 3. To increase the sosialization awoarrnes environmentally-sound mining policy among stakeholders. <br /> 4. To improve monitoring, control and low enforcement of mining activities. <br /> 5. To apply incentive and disincentive strategy. <br /> 6. To positive the society as a part of the subject that decides. <br /> 7. To create Good Governance. <br /> <br /> <br />
