Description
Summary:Clothing industry is a fairly large contributor to fabric waste. Along with the increasing number of textile waste in clothing industry (convection), especially in Jakarta. This is a factor in the high level of production in convection industry which produces textiles waste in various forms. Textile waste from cutting clothing patterns, which previously could not be used properly and just thrown away, is currently being reprocessed into new and more valuable materials. This research has an urgency to use textiles waste to develop new materials. According to the results of a survey on a convection industry of PT. Farah Textile, located in East Jakarta, has a large amount of Twill Gabardine fabric waste in this convection, around ± 750 kilograms per month, textile waste are produced with various kinds of pieces. The purpose of this design process is to be able to reprocess the Twill Gabardine textile waste, so it can be an alternative material fabric that is made optimally by exploring structural designs such as felting techniques, the upcycling fashion approach and create an environmental-friendly product. This research was aimed to obtain an overview of the opportunities of processing fabric waste using felting techniques and also creating a minimalist and functional fashion accessory product that has good utility value.
