Description
Summary:Advances in science and information technology have resulted in globalization that has given birth to hybridization which threatens the loss of local identity values, including in the current residential architecture. Residential houses made wisely and wisely are rather rare to find. However, one of Tan Tjiang Ay's architectural works in the form of a modern stilt house owned by AP, in the North Bandung area (Dago Atas), appears to be experiencing hybridization and modernization, but still considering the values of Sundanese vernacular architectural traditions. The purpose of this research is expected to find valuable knowledge, especially for architects and designers, including the wider community in general, in building a house that is good and true to culture and nature and the environment. The research in this thesis uses a qualitative research model, with the approach of Plowright's theory, Vitruvius theory as an initial investigation that is quite detailed and in-depth. Furthermore, the results of the approach of the two theories are carried out by a comparison through the Transforming Tradition theory to find the similarities and differences of the elements between Tan Tjiang Ay's modern architecture and Sundanese vernacular architecture. In several studies, this theory is also used in traditional handicraft artifacts in Indonesia that have experienced modernization, including tableware, cooking utensils, jewelry boxes, sauna buildings, boats and so on. This approach model also serves to answer how a tradition is preserved and continues to take place, until the form of transformation that occurs in the artifact is found. This is presented (explained) through the ATUMICS method. From the research approach and theory used, it was found: the concept and philosophy of the creator, the value of function, the value of beauty, to the form of occupant behavior caused by the form of the environment (architecture). The iv novelty of this research found a valuable meaning about the concept of a residence in the architecture of the house on stilts of the AP by Tan Tjiang Ay. From some of the literature that the author has explored, there has been no specific discussion about this. As for the benefits of this research, found important values in the work of Tan Tjiang Ay which can be a source of knowledge about the design of an ideal modern residence in tropical areas, especially in hilly areas such as in the North Bandung area. Indirectly, the house on stilts of the AP can become a model for the preservation of traditional objects by architect Tan Tjiang Ay.
