Summary: | Abstract :
Spodoptera exigua is a polyphagous insect that attack cultivated plants. This research is aimed to find better knowledge on nutrition ecology of Spodoptera exigua, related to response on three different feed (welsh onion, caisin and celery) from observed nutrition indices, growth rate and life cycle. From the result obtained, caisin-fed larvae showed the highest consumption rate (CR) and growth rate (GR), 137.20 mg/day and 15.52 mg/day respectively, which is significantly different from the other fed-larvae. This result suggest a relation between consumption rate with weight of pupae, and also between weight of pupae with survival rate (20% on caisin-fed larvae). The shortest life cycle observed was also on caisin-fed larvae. The high growth rate, consumption rate and the short life cycle of caisin-fed larvae was supposed by the level of approximate of digestibility (AD=49.87%), efficiency of conversion of digested (ECD=24,82%), efficiency of conversion of ingested (ECI=11.93%) which is the highest among all larvae. All of above parameters concluded that caisin-fed larvae have the best nutrition indices. It is suggested that caisin have (1) better combination of protein and carbohydrate, and (2) higher water content. |
